Welcome to Gambia

"I wanted my gap year to be more than just fun and backpacking. I wanted mine to be constructive and productive. Frontier helped me do this."

The Gambia is a small country in West Africa, surrounded by Senegal on all sides, except on the Atlantic coast. For this reason the two countries have a lot of ethnic and cultural ties. In contrast with Senegal, a former French colony, The Gambia was colonised by Britain and gained its independence on 18th February 1965.

The Gambia is divided into five divisions: Lower River (Mansa Konko), Central River (Janjanbureh), North Bank (Kerewan), Upper River (Basse) and Western (Brikama) and the city and administrative centre of Banjul.
