Madagascan President supports Frontier Environment Day

News item submitted by Frontier
News item dated 8 Dec 2008

Frontier's environmental awareness work in Madagascar recently received the backing of the local president, who joined with in our efforts to alleviate environmental degradation.

By analysing community data from previous work, Frontier staff and volunteers had been able to prioritise the most relevant environmental issues causing problems for the local population of Tsarakibany. Water pollution, litter dispersal and overgrazing were chosen as topics for an Environmental Awareness Day.

Advertised by the president on local radio, the event was a great success, enjoying massive support from the local communities. Students from a nearby university helped Frontier organize the games, create posters and act out plays designed to bring awareness to important local environmental issues.
