Siem Reap Fun and Games

We’ve been in Siem Reap for 10 days and although we’ve only had two days teaching due to public holidays, we already love it!  Before we started our teaching placement we were both very nervous and had many questions: What level of English would the students be at? Would we be able to introduce our own ideas into lessons? Would there be someone there to help us? As soon as we met the head teacher and monk at our school we felt immediately calm and welcomed.  We are both teaching for three hours from 3pm till 6pm and the students we are teaching range from 11 to 25.  Although this means that it's not so much about fun and games as it is with the younger students, it allows us to speak more advanced English with the students and we feel like we are really helping them develop. It’s a challenge as some of the English is quite difficult and resources such as books are limited, however the teaching is very rewarding. The school itself is small but very charming.

The monks and teachers at the school are great and we have already befriended many of them and are helping them to better their English outside of school.  We recently were taken to several local museums by one of the teachers, and also to the local night life!  Siem Reap is a great city and we are enjoying exploring and getting around on our bicycles.  We have found a great place to eat at night where we can fill ourselves for only a few dollars.  Often after we go to the night market and pick up a few bargains or get a relaxing massage.
