I arrived at Nadi airport to meet my fellow volunteers and began the 3 and ½ hour crazy fairground bus ride to Suva. We arrived at our accommodation which is pretty basic but nonetheless nice. The family who lives within the lodge are so welcoming, which is a pretty standard trait of the Fijian culture.

Suva itself is manic. Catching the bus to my project is always a little nerve wrecking and around town especially the market, it is very busy. The town itself appears quite old in appearance and there doesn’t appear to be lots to do but the free weekends are the best time of making the most of your new friends and the idyllic islands of Fiji.

My placement its self is based at the local Medical Centre which is around a 15 minute bus ride from Suva. The staff there are brilliant and so friendly, making sure I felt part of the staff. My work generally contains observing general procedures but if you are willing to get stuck in there is plenty that they will have you doing and some of the experiences I have encountered have been hilarious and great to learn about!
