To anyone considering joining the Frontier Fiji Marine Program, I would highly recommend the project to people looking for 1) an adventure, 2) the opportunity to dive and participate in conservation focused surveys in some remote and beautiful dive sites, 3) a unique and authentic cultural experience 4) the opportunity to take on the challenge of living in basic conditions on the edge of a jungle in what is a truly remote and untouched location. This is hard work which is relevant, worthwhile, and bound influence a continuing interest in marine conservation. Read the briefing documents carefully. Be prepared to learn species identification criteria as quickly and effectively as possible- the more you learn the more useful you are as a researcher. FJM is a brilliant opportunity for both qualified and beginner divers. The 10 week expedition length is the most rewarding though a lot can be accomplished in 6-8 weeks. The work hard / play hard approach of Frontier staff is motivating and rewarding. But remember, as with anything, this expedition is what you make it.
