WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?
You will be collected from the airport in Nairobi by a friendly project representative and taken to a hostel in Nairobi for a two day orientation, giving you some time to acclimatise. You will then take a day bus journey south east to Malindi on the Kenyan coast from where you will take the boat to your project location on a small offshore island. If you prefer, you can fly directly to Mombasa and we will arrange an airport pickup for you accordingly.
WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?
You will have your own room in a thatched roof house with a friendly Kenyan host. This is a remote location, so that there will be no electricity and your shower will be a simple bucket of water. Your project location is 20 km south of Malindi, near the world famous Watamu beach. You will only be a short walk from your project location, but sometimes a local boat will be available to take you.
WHAT WILL I BE EATING?
You host will provide you with three delicious, authentic, home cooked Kenyan meals a day, providing you with a balanced diet including fruit and safe drinking water.
Kenyan cuisine includes such delicacies as "oysters Mombasa", fish or chicken in coconut, groundnut soup or beef and potato stewand for pudding, bananas cooked in banana leaves.
