WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

China is the fastest growing economy in the world and English teachers are very much in demand. As China's economy grows and changes from centrally-planned to market oriented, its people are eager to learn the skills necessary to be successful in a country of ever-expanding opportunities. Since the Olympic Games in 2008, there has been even greater interest in learning foreign languages.

The children are eager to learn and are a pleasure to teach. You will help improve their English skills and at the same time teach them lots about British culture, music and sports! You'll quickly make friends for life and you'll have ample opportunities to learn Chinese as you attend local festivals and explore this fascinating country with your local hosts. The demand for English teachers from English-speaking nations is extremely high.

Your help can give children a sense of confidence, encourage their enthusiasm and ambition, and improve their opportunities for the future. To teach, you will need to be patient, flexible, a confident communicator and able to use your initiative and imagination. Lessons will be fun and interactive, developing the children's confidence and conversational skills.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

From kindergarten to college, the Frontier-China teaching project offers immense help to the impoverished children who wish to learn English. Following the local school timetables, you will be at the school five days a week, teaching between two and four hours a day. The evenings and weekends are yours to spend as you like, and the local area offers a variety of activities for all tastes.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

Upon your arrival, you will be collected from the airport by in country staff before begining your introduction week. Please arrive on the Sunday.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Your apartment accommodation on a school campus during your placement is extremely comfortable: all rooms have a bathroom, TV, phone, and heating/air-conditioning. Some may even have their own computer with internet access!

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will be provided with three meals a day during the week, offering you a great opportunity to experience the delicious local cuisine. At the weekends you will be responsible for your own food, giving you the chance to explore the local restaurants and markets.
