Tanzania Music Production and Education

Explore the vibrant beats of the African music industry with a local placement that will see you in touch with the community as only music can.

Prices from $1,045

Home to some of the most magnificent and spectacular wildlife, ancient and mysterious tribal communities, vast expanses of savannah, tropical blue oceans and imposing mountain landscapes, Tanzania will surpass all expectations. Big game species roam the plains and gorges where early human skeletons lie undiscovered while Mount Kilimanjaro challenges all who behold her. The waters of the Indian Ocean caress the shores of Tanzania and hold a staggeringly diverse range of species, from curious invertebrates to gigantic whale sharks and manta rays gliding silently over the coral reefs.

For all her natural beauty and wonder, Tanzania remains one of the poorest countries in the world. In both cities and remote rural communities access to basic education and healthcare is limited and the dependence on subsistence lifestyles is widespread. Volunteering in Tanzania could be your chance to immerse yourself in her warm and welcoming communities while making a lasting contribution in your chosen field.

QUALIFICATIONS

A variety of qualifications are available on many of our projects. For example, BTEC certificates and diplomas on our Group conservation projects and TEFL certificates and BTECs on most of our teaching projects. You may also be able to gain a CoPE to support your university application. For more information on these qualifications, please see the qualifications section of our website or ask your volunteer advisor.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Come and work in a living breathing recording studio where you will get the chance to learn the ropes from the ground up. This project will see you working with famous local musicians within the studio, playing and producing music as well as being heavily involved with associated music videos. Your events management skills will also be put to the test as you arrange youth talent shows to support young artists, building up their profile and gaining publicity.

The project also aims to develop music education schemes for schools, generating income for the young musicians on the programme and producing a high class education curriculum for schools in Tanzania.  The variety of projects and interesting characters that make up your days will mean your time will fly, having left you with some fantastic experience in music production.

You can make a lasting contribution to your project by taking part in our book initiative. All you have to do is bring a book/books and they will be donated to the mobile library.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be collected from the airport in Dar es Salaam on a Sunday by a friendly local staff member and transported to your accommodation. Once you have had time to rest the local staff will introduce you to your project and the local area. Your in-country coordinator will be more than happy to help you settle in and acclimatise and you'll feel at home in no time in this friendly, vibrant country.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

You will be staying in a volunteer eco house on the coast, to the north of Dar es Salaam. Based within a small local village the volunteer facilities are basic but comfortable and clean. You will be sharing a single sex room with other volunteers, where you will have access to bucket showers and dry toilets. Internet access will usually be available for a small fee.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will be provided with breakfast and dinner as most volunteers are away from the accommodation at lunchtime at their projects. There are plenty of places for you to buy food in the local villages and this is an excellent way to experience true local street cuisine.

Food in Tanzania is generally simple, consisting of vegetables, beans or meat with rice or ugali, a common staple food in eastern and southern Africa made from maize flour.
