WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Many of the social organisations that we collaborate with work together to bring a range of social injustices into the public domain through a variety of media, including print, audio, visual and through events such as protests.

These organisations do not have unlimited finances or technical resources, but what they do have above all is a great deal of creativity that allows them to express themselves in the most striking ways.

Throughout this project you will be working closely with one such NGO helping them to research, create, edit, produce and broadcast a range of causes through various media streams depending upon the focus of the organisation at the time of your placement.

Bringing in your own technical skills, some of the tasks you may be involved with include helping with the planning and organising of events as well as the communication of the organisations social initiatives and actions such as fighting for human rights and highlighting injustice. You will be given the opportunity to collaborate with the team in order to enchance the organisations social media presence and public appearance.  You may collaborate on the production of videos, presentations and other dissemination tools, attend and translate English newspaper articles into Spanish and vice versa.

Your tasks will depend on your own skills and interests as well as what is needed at the time of your internship. You will be encouraged to bring your own creativity, perspective and skills to the articles you contribute to, whilst also constantly learning from your colleagues and fellow proffessionals. If you are interested in a particular area do let us know and we will endeavour to get you involved during your internship. Wherever your goals lie, whether purely in journalism or even editing, production or advertising, this assignment has something for you. All this, whilst you discover more about this incredible city and its people through your work and research on the project.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

Upon arrival into Buenos Aires International Airport you will be greeted by a friendly in-country representative, who will then escort you to your home in Buenos Aires, where you will live for the duration of your stay.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

You will be staying in a shared volunteer/student house with a fully equipped kitchen and living room. Bed linen is provided.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will be responsible for all of your own meals, and your accommodation will have facilities enabling you to do this, or you can take the opportunity to sample some of the city's abundant cafes and restaurants.

Argentina is well known for its good food, and in particular the fantastic local produce. You may wish to venture out into the city and try some of the food offered by local restaurants and market stalls. If you are a meat eater you might like to try a steak, which are world renowned! Buenos Aires certainly has a lot to offer the eager explorer, and the bustling street stalls and colourful markets invite you to immerse yourself in this wonderfully diverse culture.

Look out for some delicious meat dishes; meat is the national staple - such as beef cooked 'asado style', or 'parillo', which is grilled sausage served with salad. Empanadas are also a national favourite; these half-moon shaped pastries can be filled with a range of ingredients such as meat and vegetables. If you have a sweet tooth, then Dulce de Leche will be right up your street! Specific diets and vegetarians can be accommodated.
