WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

The Frontier-Bali Experience will see you participating in a three week action packed adventure as you combine a volunteering placement with an overland tour designed to show you the best of Bali.

Week 1 - Introduction Week

You will spend your first week learning about the Balinese culture and getting to know your fellow travellers. You will receive basic language lessons to help you communicate more effectively with the locals, while also visiting various temples, watching traditional Balinese dance and touring the rice fields. You will have time to explore the bustling city of Ubud, where a walk down the famous Monkey Street is a must. You will learn local art techniques and refresh your culinary talents by exploring Balinese cooking methods.

Week 2 - Volunteering Placement

Depending on your interests and previous experience you will undertake your volunteering placement in one of the following areas:

  • Teaching
  • Community environmental awareness
  • Healthcare Awareness

You can guarantee that this rewarding hands on work will have a lasting and positive impact within the local community where you are based.

Week 3 - Adventure Travel

Your Bali Experience will be rounded off by a week of adventure and discovery as you head out on an adrenaline filled white water rafting trip down the Ayung River before taking a cycle tour through the picturesque Batur Mountains, a fantastic way to explore this less accessible part of Bali.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport, on the Sunday, you will be met by a staff member from our local partner organisation and transported to your accommodation. Once you have had time to rest, staff will introduce you to your project and the local area. Please be sure to arrive between 6am and 8pm to qualify for a pickup. Pickup is available at an extra cost if you need to arrive outside these times.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

For the first two weeks you will be based at our volunteer centre in Ubud with your fellow travellers. The accommodation will be clean, secure and comfortable with air conditioning and you will have access to all the basic facilities you’ll require during your stay. Spend the evenings relaxing with your new friends or exploring the surrounding area.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will be provided with three meals a day during the week and two meals on Saturday and Sunday. Food will be typically Balinese, consisting of a fusion of Indonesian and Chinese styles, some of the most popular dishes being nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice with a fried egg on top) and mie goreng (fried noodles with egg). Another Indonesian favourite is Satay (spicy marinated thin slices of meat, threaded onto a skewer, barbecued, and served with a spicy peanut sauce).

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Bali has a huge range of additional adventure and cultural activities to offer outside your project time. Why not take a visit to some remote villages and mingle with the locals or take a rainforest canopy tour. Alternatively you could use your time off to go island hopping, scuba diving, volcano trekking, or take a wildlife safari in one of the national parks.

After all that you will undoubtedly want to relax in one of Bali’s many spa resorts or pristine beaches. All of these activities can easily be arranged with the many local providers with the resutl that your contribution to the local economy is even more significant.

Flights

Flights are not included in our trip costs. However, we have partnered with an experienced and professional team of travel experts to help our volunteers find the best flight deals for their trips with us. This travel specialist operates in the tailor-made, long haul multi-stop travel market, arranging complex airfares and transfers for independent travellers. They provide expertise, security and a vast product range along with a Travel Butler service which is a single point of contact and support whilst you are overseas.

We recommend that you obtain a quote using the following contact details rather than book online, as our partner will offer you the most competitive fares. To receive your quote or to seek any advice for your flights, please contact our dedicated team of travel experts on 0800 082 9994 (or +44 800 082 9994 outside the UK) or email frontier@flightcentre.co.uk .

Visas

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

Insurance

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.
