WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

The Frontier-Bangkok Business Internship is designed to give enthusiastic students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience within this competitive industry. We facilitate your placement at a local business agency in central Bangkok where you will shadow experienced members of staff and be given assignments according to the focus of the agency at the time of your visit.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

During the placement process, you will be working with our programme advisor who will organise interviews with our large network of business agencies in Asia.

You will learn about the economic and social situation in one of the world's most exciting cities, as you bring your enthusiasm and experience to this exciting internship. Thailand is a dynamic and complex country, where politics and social patterns are constantly changing. By travelling as an ethical, responsible and considerate visitor, you will gain a fascinating insight into Thailand while developing your own experience.

By immersing yourself in the community you are subscribing to an ethos that is beneficial to the culture that you are spending time in. At the same time, you will get the opportunity to develop into a well-rounded individual and a more attractive prospect for potential employers and universities alike.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be met at the Airport by a friendly local staff member and escorted to your project accommodation where you will have a chance to rest following your journey before being introduced to your internship programme.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Throughout your placement you will be staying in hostel, in either a shared or single room. We have various hostel arrangements conveniently located across the heart of Bangkok. You will have access to all necessities including western toilets and shower, an individual study table, air-conditioning, a furnished kitchen, a shared living room and internet access. All apartments are within walking distance from the BTS Sky Train or an MRT station, making it convenient for interns to travel to and from their internship placement.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

A great aspect of this amazing project is that it is self-catered. This is a fun element of travelling away from home as it gives you added freedom and is a good opportunity to bond with fellow travellers and volunteers while exploring local restaurants and market stalls! The wonderful Thai culture is reflected in its cuisine. The local food is popular worldwide and local street food eateries are delicious, varied and cheap. Famous dishes include Pad Thai and there are endless options for rice, noodle and curry meals.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Bangkok is a huge city and has good links to other areas of Thailand too, where you can explore beautiful beaches and humid rainforests. Within Bangkok itself, there is the glitzy Siam Square where you can find some of the biggest shopping malls if you want to splurge. Head to Rattanakosin to explore ‘Old Bangkok’ which is home to the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and other stunning temples. The infamous Khao San Road is the first point for many new travellers, with endless food stalls, bars, clubs and entertainment all day and night. Thai boxing is worth watching at the Lumpini Boxing Stadium or other smaller venues for a taste of the local sport. Bangkok is the quintessential Asian capital, with monks, malls, huge temples and renowned nightlife.

Visas

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

Insurance

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.
