QUALIFICATIONS

A variety of qualifications are available on many of our projects. For example, BTEC certificates and diplomas on our Group conservation projects and TEFL certificates and BTECs on most of our teaching projects. You may also be able to gain a CoPE to support your university application. WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

The Frontier-Singapore IT Internship is designed to give enthusiastic students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain some practical experience within this competitive industry. We facilitate your placement at a local IT agency in central Singapore where you will shadow experienced members of staff and be given assignments according to the focus of the agency at the time of your visit.

Our internship programme provides students and young professionals with guaranteed tailor-made IT internships. Before you start the internship placement process, you must apply and get accepted. During the placement process, you will be working with our programme advisor who will organise interviews with our large network of IT agencies in Asia.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING? 

You will learn about the economic and social situation in one of the world's most free and innovative economies, as you bring your enthusiasm and experience to this exciting internship. Singapore is a dynamic and complex country, where politics and social patterns are constantly changing. By travelling as an ethical, responsible and considerate visitor, you will gain a fascinating insight into Singapore while developing your own experience.

By immersing yourself in the community, rather than just as a detached tourist, you are subscribing to an ethos that is beneficial to the culture that you are spending time in. At the same time, you are making yourself into a well-rounded individual and a more attractive prospect for potential employers and universities. 

HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be met at the Airport by a friendly local staff member from where you will be escorted to your project accommodation where you will have a chance to rest following your journey before being introduced to your internship programme.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Throughout your placement you will be staying in hostel, either in as shared or single room. You will have access to all necessities including western toilets and shower, air-conditioning, shared kitchen and living room, and internet access. All apartments are within walking distance from an MTR station making it convenient for interns to travel to and from your internship placement.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

A great aspect of the internship is that it is self-catering. This is a fun element of travelling away from home as it gives you that added freedom and sense of independence and is a great opportunity to bond with fellow interns in local restaurants and market stalls! The cultural diversity of Singapore is reflected in its cuisine. The food is influenced by the native Malay, the predominant Chinese, Indonesian, Indian and Peranakan, in addition to Western traditions. 

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Singapore may be small, but there is no shortage of activities to occupy your evenings and days off! The colonial core is based in the Riverside district, filled with museums, theatres and other cultural buildings. Orchard Road is home to every shop and mall imaginable, Marina Bay supports two huge conservatories and gardens which are perfect for relaxed exploration. Chinatown is not be missed as well and is the ideal place to try some Chinese treats, if you like your food varied you can also visit Little India for Indian, Kampong Glam for Malay and East Coast for delicious seafood. 

Sentosa is Singapore’s island getaway, filled with beaches, resorts and various attractions including a Universal Studios theme park and botanical gardens. 

Singapore’s ideal location also allows you springboard off to various other exciting destinations nearby, such as Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia and it’s an ideal base for further South East Asian adventures.

Flights are not included in our trip costs. Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Insurance

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.
