What does the project do?

This project aims to provide a relaxing environment and base for those looking to relax and explore the beautiful town and beaches of El Nido on the Philppine island of Palawan.

What will I be doing?

On this project you will have plenty of free time to explore El Nido and the island of Palawan as you wish. The program includes a day’s kayaking trip and a traditional Filipino massage. As well as relaxing on picturesque beaches there are plenty of other activities for you to try including snorkelling, diving, exploring caves and waterfalls.

What happens when I arrive?

You will fly into Puerto Princesa International airport on the Sunday where you will be met by a friendly in-country representative and transfer to the project site.

Where will I be staying?

You will be staying in shared accommodation in the volunteer guesthouse. There are shared bathrooms with cool showers and western-style toilets. There is WIFI on site and the rooms are fan-cooled with locks on the doors and linen provided. There are also various public transport options nearby and other optional activities to take part in.

What will I be eating?

Throughout your stay you will be provided with three meals a day. The meals will mainly consist of local Philippine cuisine so expect to be eating lots of vegetables, rice, egg and meat. Did we mention rice? Philippine cuisine has developed from an exciting variety of influences including Malay, Spanish, Chinese and American, thanks to its trade and seafaring history. Other Asian and Latin dishes have also been adapted to incorporate local ingredients, providing you with a vast range of dishes to sample and enjoy. Popular dishes include a whole roasted pig, traditional Philippine sausage, omelettes, braised chicken and pork and a variety of seafood to name just a few.

Additonal Opportunities

There’s plenty to explore on Palawan in your free time or before/ after your project. The island is fringed with beautiful beaches so why not relax on the beach, go diving or snorkelling, go kayaking or try out other water based activities. Coron Bay is found at the northwest of Palawan (between Busuanga and Culion islands) and is known for being one of the best wreck diving locations in the world. On land there is also much to explore from pretty coastal villages to inland waterfalls.  The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located 50km north of the city of Puerto Princesa and has recently been voted one of the new 7 wonders of nature. Your in-country coordinators will be able to help you arrange any additional activities.
