WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

This amazing action packed tour will give you an incredible opportunity to experience the best bits of the Asian subcontinent, intermixing a period of worthwhile volunteering with world famous sites, epic treks, jungle safaris, meditation and visits to traditional tea houses in the mountain foothills of the Himalayas. This once in a lifetime cultural immersion and adventure tour in this charismatic spiritual country is not to be missed!

Throughout the trip you will be travelling as part of a group, sharing unforgettable experiences as your senses awaken to the sights, sounds and smells of Nepal.

First Leg - Kathmandu Introduction

Your first week is designed to introduce you to the Nepali way of life, giving you the opportunity to explore the history and culture of Nepal, with visits to local sites of special interest, starting in the capital city, Kathmandu. Frontier representatives will take you on an exciting city tour which includes the chance to see the unique parts of the city. You’ll also visit some important historical and cultural landmark sites, including the orientation tour to Bouddhanath and talks given by academics on the country’s religion and history. Following this wonderful opportunity to fully immerse yourself in your new surroundings, the briefing for your imminent adventure will begin. You’ll be feeling happy and confident to begin exploring the intricate beauty of Nepal!

Second Leg - Adventure Time!

From here you will leave the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu behind as you head out on a short hike around the surrounding villages and experience the idyllic life of rural Nepal, before joining an adrenaline packed white water rafting adventure along the Trisuli River!

When you have dried off you will continue on to the humid plains of the south and the wilderness of the Royal Chitwan National Park, home to the famous one horned rhinoceros, wild elephants and tigers! You will round off this action packed leg with a well deserved rest in Nepal’s most popular city, Pokhara, set at the foot of the Annapurna range and on the shores of Lake Phew.

Third Leg - Trekking in the Annapurna Region

The third leg of the trip will commence with the amazing 5 day trek to Poon Hill, against the back-drop of the Annapurna mountain range – expect welcoming tea houses and mind blowing views. On the way back from the trek you’ll receive a relaxing authentic Nepalese massage.

The next day you will attend a Yoga and Meditation class, where you will learn how to hone your technique and achieve relaxation like never before.

Fourth Leg - Volunteering Placement in Kathmandu

The last leg of the tour will see you take part in a rewarding community volunteering project, where you can assist and lend a helping hand at the project of your choice. Our Frontier coordinator will train and give you assistance during this week, so you’ll be prepared in no time!

We run a number of community development projects around Nepal, including teaching projects, orphanage programmes, building projects, and organic farming.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be collected upon arrival at Kathmandu airport by a friendly local staff member and transported to your scheduled location. Once you have had time to rest the local staff will introduce you to your project and the local area. Your in-country coordinator will be more than happy to help you settle in and acclimatise and you'll feel at home in no time in this friendly, vibrant country. Please aim to arrive on a Sunday.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Throughout the project you will be staying in a variety of local guest houses on the route of your road trip. The volunteer facilities are comfortable and clean. You will most likely be sharing a room with other volunteers and you will have basic bathroom and bedroom facilities. Internet access isn’t guaranteed in the accommodation, however internet cafes can be found nearby.  A member of our staff will be accompanying you on your journey and will always be on call in case of emergency 24/7.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will be provided with three meals a day breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meat consumption isn’t allowed in the volunteer centres therefore all meals are vegetarian; however feel free to eat what you like when out and about. Food in Nepal is delicious, varied and inexpensive. You can enjoy sampling traditional Nepalese cuisine; dishes such as delicately spiced curries, fresh local market produce, and delicious meat, fish and vegetables. There are many specialities to try so you are sure to find something that you love!

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Whilst the project schedule means that you will get the chance to do most activities as part of the programme, you may like to venture out in your spare time and explore the shops, visit famous monuments, or try out your new language skills at local markets - you are sure to want to discover more of the breathtaking natural environment or explore Nepal's local food and customs by visiting the traditional style restaurants tucked away in the winding back streets of the country.

For the adrenaline seekers there is a wealth of opportunities available through local tour operators such as bungee jumping, paragliding, canoeing, motor biking and rock climbing. If there are any specific adventure activities that you would like to incorporate into your trip, these are very likely to be available - ask your local project staff for prices and more information.

Visas

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

Insurance

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.
